DIY Hair Accessories Video Tutorial

Here is a YouTube video I made for you on making these fabric yo-yo DIY hair accessories. Don't forget to subscribe for weekly sewing and craft videos.

  1. First, start by making your yo-yos and covered buttons.
  2. I have a full tutorial on how to make fabric yoyos, but in a nutshell, you cut a circle, do a running stitch around the outside, and then gently put until the center gathers. Knot it off securely.
  3. For buttons, you can use any type, but covered buttons are particularly nice in contrasting fabrics. They are fast and easy to make with a kit. Read how to make covered buttons. Stitch your covered button in the center of the yo-yo.
  4. Attach it to your clip or hairband. If you are using one of these spring clips or bobby pins, make sure you just sew it to the top of the clip. Alternatively, you can use a hot glue gun to attach your yo-yo.

Alligator clips, when lined with ribbon, look attractive and are a simple project. If you line just the top, then the clip will still grab the hair well without sliding out. You can use a lined alligator clip as a base to glue bows and flowers for really professional-looking DIY hair accessories.
