How are NYRR corrals determined? ›

Your corral assignment is based on your best pace as calculated by NYRR, and each corral has a minimum best pace, called a pace cut. The pace cuts are listed in the chart below, (in the Pace Cuts section), and you can read an explanation of how pace cuts are calculated on our Calculated Pace and Corral Updates page.

The Start. Start Corrals: Participants are responsible for arriving at the start corrals assigned to them, based on their best pace, and entering at the designated corral entry points before the corral closing times. Runners may move back to a slower corral but may not move forward to a faster corral.

There are three starts (pink, orange, blue) in each of five waves; each wave has six corrals. Your start color, wave, and corral are indicated in your confirmation form and on your race number (bib). Wave and corral assignments cannot be changed.

More than 28,000 runners—a record number—conquered the 2024 RBC Brooklyn Half in the event's 42nd running, making the race the largest half marathon in the country in 2024. Runners around the world will find out the status of their application on Thursday. More than 50,000 people overall will get the go-ahead to take part in the marathon and approximately 4% of the applications will be accepted.

Picking up for a friend/family member

In these cases, someone else may pick up your race materials. The runner can provide their friend/family member with their QR code (this is the faster option) or our Runner Services team can look them up using their name and birthdate.

The following items are prohibited from all NYRR events and race venues: Hydration backpack/vest with bladder or water reservoir (if your vest allows for both water bottles and a bladder/water reservoir, you are only able to use bottles and they must be in the front pockets of the vest). At the very least, we'd prefer that you leave one ear unobstructed by only wearing only one earbud at all times. If at any time a race official notices that your awareness is hindered by your headphones or earbuds, you will be asked to remove them and risk disqualification.

If you choose to wear headphones, please ensure that you can hear all announcements and remain aware of your surroundings, including other participants, and that the volume is low enough so that the sound is not audible to other runners.

Overall the average time of all participants completing the marathon was 4:39:49. The average time of men finishing was 4:26:40 while the average time of women was 4:56:12.

What was the hottest NYC Marathon? ›

1995. To date, this event was the coldest NYC Marathon ever (1979 was the warmest, topping out at 80 degrees).

16-Week Half Marathon Training Plan

A 16-week training plan is ideal for new runners competing in their first half marathon. This allows enough time to slowly, safely, and enjoyably increase your mileage so you show up on race day ready for the full distance.

Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal is the 2024 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon women's winner. In the men's wheelchair race, Geert Schipper crossed the finish line in 48:43 for his first Half win in the men's wheelchair division. Susannah Scaroni of the USA defended her women's wheelchair division title with a time of 53:50.

Most runners take between 16 and 20 weeks to train for a marathon. As you build up to the race, your heart, muscles and mind need to be conditioned for the exertion ahead, so following a strict training plan which gradually ups the ante and improves your fitness and stamina is very important.

Pace = Time / Distance

Note: your pace might not be calculated into a round number of minutes. Converting it to seconds can be easier. To do this, multiply the decimal number by 60. For example, 0.5 minutes = 30 seconds.

A corral is a group of runners/walkers that are classified by their estimated finish time. Why are we in corrals at the start of the race? Grouping athletes by their estimated finish time allows each athlete to be surrounded by others who will be at that same pace.

The NYC marathon accepts rolling applications year-round. Then they hold random drawings every two months. There are three drawing pools for local, national, and international applicants. Having different pools allows coordinators to ensure the geographic diversity of runners.
