Hi all! I just moved to Brooklyn and I switched practices. I am currently 25 weeks pregnant and made an appointment with PURE. I chose it because of its clean environment and there hours work with what I need. Does anyone know any more about it? Are the doctors good/kind/considerate? For labor and delivery will they listen and hear me out or just assume and do there own thing? Are people satisfied with them? Any and all info is appreciated!!
I've seen a couple posts regarding Mount Sinai West on this group, but any info on delivering in that hospital is appreciated. Environment? Cleanliness? Is the staff courteous? etc.
Thanks!!

I’ve heard Dr. Becker is fine, I saw Dr. Shultis, and she really turned me off and I ended up going with Dr. Rutenberg at Mount Sinai West. I’m 36 weeks

@LZB,
I second Dr. Rutenberg! She’s my OB and is so communicative and cautious. I love her. She even called my on a Sunday to explain my genetic testing results.

I was with Pure up until 24 weeks. Most of the staff were fine, the office was clean/efficient and I didn’t have any issues. At my 24 week appointment, I saw Dr. Alexander Goncharov (who I believe owns, or partially owns, the practice) and found him to be extremely condescending, demeaning and rude. His awful bedside manner left me nearly in tears after my appointment. I was not okay with there being even a chance that he would be the one to deliver my baby, so I switched practices, and I am so glad I did.
Another aspect that made me nervous about staying with Pure was delivering at MSW, which I’m sure is an excellent hospital but, living in Brooklyn, it’s about an hour away from my home. I’ve heard laboring in a car really sucks, so 15 minutes sounds a lot better than an hour

@HeyMomma I’m 18 weeks and currently go to Pure. I’ve seen almost every doctor (by choice) and have enjoyed every one of them. The Technicians are amazing and you get to see your baby in an US at every appointment. My sister is also pregnant and has only seen her baby 3 time throughout her pregnancy.
Dr. Goncharov was my first appointment there, I agree he’s straight forward and a little brash, but he’s also been around for a long time and takes the philosophy that women have babies and don’t overreact- (My words not his). Which honestly for someone who over worries, I appreciate. I wouldn’t be upset if he delivered me.
Pure doctors are a high vagin*l delivery practice, which is what I wanted. Their cesarean rate is 15% compared to NYC average at 30%.

I go to Pure! Some of the doctors have left and new ones have arrived while I’ve been there so Dr Becker isn’t there now which is a shame. However the others have been mostly great. I actually find Dr G (senior) quite amusing with his dry personality! He doesn’t deliver anyway apparently. His son is really good. I’ve had very thorough care up until now and will be delivering in a few weeks at MSW. I’m high risk and have had 18 ultrasounds.

I went to pure for a few years while TTC and then until 30 weeks pregnant. The ultrasounds each visit were a pro (though cost $15 each time) and the Saturday hours. I found a few doctors good and a few eh. Not super informative for a FTM but I didn’t have many questions anyway. Women doing bloodwork and sonograms were amazing. I switched to Guirguis for the same reason as above, I wanted to deliver in Brooklyn and Pure stopped doing that mid-summer.

I’ve been going to PURE since I found out I was pregnant. I’m 24 weeks now and have seen Nina Yoo my past few visits. I really like her, but just started receiving bills that my insurance (Anthen Blue Cross) will not pay because they are saying they cannot find Nina Yoo in the system. Has any one else has this issue yet? Pure’s billing department is looking into it, but I’m worried I need to change practices because if Nina Yoo is on call when I go into labor, my insurance won’t cover it, as of now.

@berickson24,
Hi @berickson24. I'm also seeing Dr. Nina Yoo at Pure OBGYN and have Anthem Blue Cross. She's definitely in-network, although Blue Anthem did have trouble finding her. I suggest contacting Blue Anthem again,. The first representative at Anthem Blue Cross did not find her and she was also not on the list of in-network obgyns that Anthem Blue Cross shared with me. However, all the other obgyns at Pure were on this list, so I reached out to Blue Anthem again and they did find Dr. Nina Yoo in their system the second time.

@carolinevanca,
thank you so much! I’m glad to hear that. Dian from Pure OBGYN has been helping me sort it out, but I’m still waiting on revised bills so I’m glad to hear Anthem Blue found her when you called a second time. Appreciate it!!

I went to Pure OBGYN since they opened several years ago in park slope. When I always only saw dr Becker. When I got pregnant in July I called and they said she was gone I was so sad. The office makes A LOT of mistakes. Dr Becker would always advocate for me and now she is gone. I tried some other doctors there but I’m not comfortable with their group practice policies. Even if you always see the same doctor, who ever is on call when you go into labor will deliver your baby, so they want you to see everyone. I don’t like not feeling comfortable and building a relationship with one person. After a yet another huge mistake they made, I decided to never return.

Dr. Alexander Goncharov is awful!! I went to one appointment and never returned. He’s rude and mansplained the dumbest things to me. I wasn’t pregnant at the time but he gave me a hard time for having a home birth with my first. He said he would not be monitoring my pregnancy in the future if I planned on delivering at home. I said no you wouldn’t, my midwife would be. I don’t plan on coming back here nor will I have a hospital birth. Boy bye.

I just wanted to add that I was induced this week and Dr Woodbury was absolutely brilliant - the perfect mixture of encouraging and firm during pushing and very knowledgeable. She’s one of the new doctors and is very smart - I felt in very good hands. They’ve been really good my whole pregnancy which was high risk.

I’m 17 weeks pregnant and go to Pure in Manhattan. I’ve been seeing Dr Emily Woodbury and she is just so reassuring, kind and has great bed side manner, talking me through the whole process. I don’t like the idea though of switching doctors every visit especially after getting comfortable with one. Plus hearing that they push strongly for vagin*l birth is concerning as would want to weigh all my options and have them look at my case and decide accordingly. Also I feel that Dr Goncharov who owns the practice does most deliveries and hearing some of your comments about him is truly concerning. Although I was told you can pay $3K to have a fixed doctor for your delivery.
